Halloween, Panda Style!

Since tomorrow is a state holiday (two actually: Presley's birthday and Nevada Day), Leah celebrated Halloween at school today.

Our little Panda, straight from China (thanks Uncle Alan!).

Birthday Party

Leah's birthday party was so much fun!  Thanks so much to Yaya for all your help; I couldn't have done it without you!  It was so great to have so much of Brian's family come in town to share the weekend with us, and I know Leah had the best time in her new playroom with all of her best friends!

Dinosaur Problems

Congrats to my Megan and Tommy on their engagement!!

Good thing Tommy isn't a dinosaur!

Ouch

Dear Leah,
Thanks for helping Mommy and Daddy figure out what baby-proofing still needs to be done around this house. Glad you're ok!
Love,
Mom

(She just likes carrying around an empty bottle of nose spray, ok?)

And five minutes later...
(Nose spray turned into Chapstick! Magic!)

Agreed

Leah, today your teacher called you sassy and speculated you could eat an entire can of beans for lunch. Yes, on both accounts.

ONE

My baby is one!

She is happy and healthy and I will have stats to report after her doctor's appointment next week.

Leah loves carrying balls around the house, and occasionally we can get her to drop them in the ball drop.  She also loves remote controls, opening drawers in the bathrooms and kitchen (don't worry, they are filled with Leah-friendly items) and pulling DVDs out of a supposedly childproofed cabinet.  Her favorite game is peek-a-boo.

She won't sit still for books and while she loves to be held, she's not much of a snuggler (unless she is sick, and I definitely take advantage of that).  Leah loves her Daddy more than anything- I've never seen two people make the other smile as much as those two!  She is a pain in the butt when it comes to changing her diaper because she won't lay still.  Leah WILL NOT keep a headband on her head (unless you sneak it on... and then you better not ask her where her head is or she'll touch it, realize the headband is there, and then it's not).  She used to love the bath, but it is currently not a preferred activity.  She still goes to anyone with ease, although Brian and I do get more glances from her than we used to.  She still wants her puppy more than anything, but Johnny (still) does not return the sentiment.

Leah's favorite food is beans, and she uses a sippy cup to drink milk and water.  She eats mostly anything except bananas and avocado- and more recently cucumbers which were her first favorite!  We've just started practicing using a spoon.  When Leah wants more, she will either scream, sign "more," or say, "mo!"  She has just learned to sign "please."

Leah talks all the time at home and is getting better at imitating sounds.  She says, "bah" for "ball" and "mo" for "more".  She also says "da da" all.the.time.  She's very, very quiet- almost silent- when she is not at home, including when she is at school.  She doesn't cry too often out of the house either, even when she's clearly exhausted, but has perfected her whining at home.

Leah moves everywhere.  She is the fastest, yet most deliberate crawler I've ever seen.  She prefers standing to sitting and will walk along furniture, with toys, and holding hands as much as she can.  She stands up on her own without holding on to anything and is taking more and more steps without holding on- one to three at a time.  I've been saying for over a month that she's so close to walking- one of these days she'll get it!

It has been the best year.  It's absolutely amazing to watch this sweet girl learn and grow and become herself.  What am I looking forward to the most for the next year?  Easy.  Hair, please!

Week 52

As my Week 52 (!) email from The Bump so eloquently states, I am feeling a serious mixture of pride at seeing how far I've come as a mom and sadness at how quickly Leah has gone from baby to toddler.  She's not the same baby ball of happiness she was just a few months ago- she's a (usually) happy big girl now!  I'm a bit nervous for the big birthday tomorrow, but keeping it together as our preparations continue.  Birthdays don't go unnoticed in my house and there is so much to look forward to!

Already playing with super fun birthday presents.  Thanks Friends!

Sleepover

Last night Leah spent the night at a friend's house for the first time! I mean, by the time we brought her over Presley was sleeping, and Leanne had to WAKE LEAH UP in the morning, and Leah pretty much slept all day, so I guess she was pretty easy (thanks goodness!). One of these days, these girls will be up all night telling ghost stories and prank calling boys...

Anyways, we have the best friends who take such good care of Leah and love her like we do. They even went to the pumpkin patch this morning!

Can't wait for our next slumber party in a few weeks!

Fireworks

I LOVE fireworks. My favorite holidays are those with fireworks: Fourth of July, New Years, my birthday (ok, there should be fireworks on my birthday).

I just sat through Kol Nidre services and watched fireworks through the sanctuary windows for a good twenty minutes (thank you high school football). Maybe Yom Kippur just made my list of favorite holidays.

A cute face because what's a blog post without one?

Another cute face. This is his blog, afterall!

Capture the Moment

This past weekend we had professional family and birthday pictures taken.  I have been sad leaving photography friends in Phoenix, but I am so happy we found Cassidy!  Leah wasn't exactly cooperative during the session, but Cassidy was able to captures the smiles, the serious looks, and everything in between.  And I Love The Pictures!

A few (ok, like 20) of my favorites:

Thank you Cassidy! We can't wait for our next photo shoot!
