21 Weeks

New blogging app means immediate blogging satisfaction. Now, if only I could talk myself into splurging and buying the better $2.99 app instead of making due with the free one.

Las Vegas Update

Back to Las Vegas for the second time in three weekends.  This trip was more successful than the first time, but it sure didn't feel that way at first!

Long story short, on Saturday it took us 7ish hours to see 3 houses.  Flaky realtors, occupied homes, homes with applications already in... let's just say it didn't go well, and I would have enjoyed my buffet dinner a lot more if it had (the dessert was awesome, regardless)!

On Sunday, Linda came through for us.  Linda was a little, old-ish, widowed lady with terrible eye sight who followed US from house to house, but she was just what we needed!  Thirty minutes after talking to Brian, she found us 10 houses, and we saw eight of them in 2.5 hours on Sunday morning.  We'd happily live in probably six of those, and ranked our top 4 in case the first house fell through.  The one house really stood above the rest, and the application is in!  I'll keep you posted on whether or not we get it... Keep your fingers crossed!

Two Years

If anyone had told me 26 months ago that life would have changed this much- had this many ups and downs- in mine and Brian's first two years of marriage, I would have probably laughed... but they wouldn't have been wrong.

In two years we argued about getting a dog, got a dog, had ourselves and our house destroyed by our dog, and fell in love with our dog.  Today, we caught Johnny laying down in the office (no baby gate blocking it off).  It was filled with paper, books, bubble wrap, boxes, etc. and he was just sleeping- I even had to make sure he was breathing  because I didn't believe all that stuff would go untouched!  Last night, 40 people were over to celebrate Brian, and other than helping himself to some carrots off the veggie platter late in the night, Johnny was a rock star!  He got compliments all night long.  No one would have thought this possible a year ago!

In two years Brian has had two jobs, and gotten laid off from both of them.  For as many tears, fears, and uncertainties these moments caused, there have been as many incredible opportunities as a result of them as well.  The first time?  Brian jumped at the opportunity to go back to ASU and finish his degree (more about that later).  The second time?  Brian took advantage of the opportunity to interview with companies he was truly excited about... and it's taking us to Las Vegas!

Two years ago I unpacked wedding gifts, struggling to make this house a home that both of us would love.  Today, I packed whole rooms, packed memories that we'll just have to take with us as we start again in Las Vegas.

In two years I went from begging Brian for a baby, to seriously talking about having a baby, to hiding from everyone that we really are having a baby, to sharing the news about having a baby with our family and friends.  It's an exciting time, and Obi will be here before we know it (21.5 weeks to go- almost half way there)!

In two years, Brian went from an estimator to a project engineer to a full time student.  He worked his butt off and kicked ASU and the CIM program square in the ass.  I know he didn't love his graduation ceremony this past Thursday, but it meant the world to me- and pretty much summed up the past two years.  It was a long ceremony and had it's ups and downs- good quotes from good speakers and ridiculousness from others.  And there, at the very end (literally, we're talking student 1096 out of 1100- how's that for having an "A" last name?!), Brian stood tall and proud and showed off his recently obtained diploma and gave us the fork'em sign.  We waited and waited... and he did it.

Looking for the "Las"

Word's out... we are moving to Las Vegas!  Brian and I are both so excited about this opportunity for our little growing family, and cannot wait to get there, unpack, meet people, and get to know the area.  Not to mention, Brian will be working again!  Wahoo!!

This past weekend we went up with the intent to find Brian a place to live during the weeks that I won't yet be there, and, well, that was a big, fat fail.  What wasn't a fail, however, was looking for the "las".

Everyone, including myself, has this preconceived notion of what Vegas is like- the strip, the gambling, the shows, the nightlife... I never minded the idea of moving there, but I was convinced that there was more to Vegas than these things.  There was a city out there- a city where people live and grow up and work and go to the grocery store.  There's more to Vegas than the tourist-y parties everyone sees in the movies, and therefore, I have made the decision to call the city Las Vegas, where Las = Mas!

I was very excited about the things we found: neighborhoods that reminded me of Glendale, Arrowhead, Mesa, and Goodyear; beautiful synagogues; areas where you couldn't see the strip at all, where young families were out for lunch; lots of green; wide, well-kept roads; a city that was fairly easy to get around, and that was much smaller than the map made it seem.  I know there's still more- once I get there and meet people, whole worlds will open up- but I'm starting to find the "Las"!
